Around Dounreay

From 2002 / 2005, the author of this web site assisted Dounreay with their work relating to radio active particles on Dunnet Beach, raising the awareness of said matters, keeping them informed on community complaints through the information centre at Dunnet Head. This was not the role of the Rangers, even though community safety at the beach is the responsibility of the Highland Council. She was happy to help, as THC were assisting with the information centre.

She also advised when the firing range was too close to the road. Even in June 2023 there was a potential security incident reported in the newspaper by Vulcan. Dounreay did nothing.

In 2014 the Dunnet Head Educational Trust applied twice for funding to get walkers off the road but it still remains a problem as the applications were refused. In 2020 I sat outside the gates of Dounreay in my car which is registered in Northern Ireland. No police came. I walked directly on to the site without being challenged. Is this the way it is going to be around the Sutherland Space Hub?

In 2023 the specification for the Way was sent to Dounreay as well as a request for £250 to pay a consultant to look at the route. It was ignored.

Problems around Dounreay The problem was highlighted in Pete Hills book some years ago.

The moral of the story…never volunteer.
