Beach Cleans

Who we are

At Friends of the North Highland Way, we look at the environmental hotspots, such as the Sutherland Space Hub and the flooding at Golspie.

We have contacts with several universities, and the author is a part time student at Heriot Watt University, studying the Economics of Renewable Energy.

We carried out our first beach cleans at Keiss on 19th November… or at least we tried to. However there was no beach. Reiss and Keiss beaches regularly wash away, and at the time of writing (20 November 2023) there is no sand at all on Reiss beach. There will be another “official” clean in the spring, and we go out on an ad hoc basis in any case. These are in conjunction with the Marine Conservation Society and are fully insured for public liability. The times are difficult in the winter – one cannot beach clean in the dark. You can express your interest by completing the form.

Also on the beach theme, we hope to take part in the Beach of Dreams project in 2025, and are raising money not only for infrastructure, but for the banners. The registration fee is £175 + VAT. You can give here.
